I love Fridays, bring on the weekends!! However, I seem to have a harder time staying motivated at work on Fridays, there always seems to be something that pops into my head that I 'obsess' over all day, try to do some research on, etc.
Today my Friday Obsession is becoming a Lactation Consultant. I have rolled this idea around for awhile now and even voiced it to Mark. He is awesome, always supportive of pretty much EVERY idea I've ever had as a career (and trust me, there's been quite a few!). I have one friend who recently gave birth and really put in a solid effort to nurse and another friend with a baby due in January and has mentioned she wants to try, With my own personal experiences with breast feeding, I feel like I could really have something to offer in this area. It is something I am very passionate about and a firm believer in.
Here are just a few benefits from nursing:
1) The health benefits for your baby are astounding!
2) Provides a wonderful bonding experience between mommy and baby
3) So much cheaper than buying formula
4) You burn HUNDREDS of calories a day, putting you back into your pre-pregnancy clothes before you know it!
5) New studies are finding it reduces the mother's risk of breast cancer
I could go on and on....
I have officially begun researching what I need to do to get certified for this and I am extremely happy to have learned I don't need any prior nursing education or experience. Now all I need are prayers and endurance to move forward with this and achieve this goal I am setting for myself. With my already jam-packed schedule it makes me nervous thinking about how I will squeeze this in but I know with the love and support and prayers from those who love me it'll be possible and I will get there. One of the websites I read said this: "It isn't cheap - but nothing that is worth having comes without a price and some sacrifice. Being an IBCLC should not be viewed as a hobby, or something you can do "on the side" while your children are young. This is a profession, and the rewards are terrific!"
At 30-something years old (details need not apply here!) I may have finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up!! :)

ReplyDeleteHmmm...maybe I will consider breast feeding when I have kids now. I'd definitely need your help and advice though. I'm just terrified.
