The power of Prayer
I've always known the power of Prayer is strong, but it was even more strongly proven (if possible) over the last few days as our Camden fell sick.
It started on Saturday after he woke up from his afternoon nap. We took a trip to Target where he was very whiny, rosy red cheeks, drooling and chewing on his fingers. I figured he was teething and hurried about our trip to get him home for some Tylenol and TLC.
Sunday morning he woke up pretty warm, not interested in eating much. After church we went home and I took his temp, reading about 101. More Tylenol and snuggles, we both dozed off for a nap on the sofa.
By Sunday evening I felt he was much warmer than the reading the thermometer was giving me. Time for some Motrin and a luke-warm bath to bring him down. It seemed to work because shortly after his temp was normal and he was playing a little, though still not interested in eating or drinking much.
Monday morning between 3 and 3:30 am he woke up just burning. I knew at this point a trip to the ER was inevitable.
Checking into Triage his temperature was 104.6. This is dangerously high for babies. They immediately gave him Motrin and we waited for him to give a urine sample. Given his previous kidney issues this is the first place they wanted to check.
One straight catheter, urine sample and IV start later (over several hours) he started perking up and even wanted to eat and drink a little. We started thinking he was coming out of it when he went down again with a temp reading of 105.2. Dangerously scary is what this means. Anything above 103 puts babies at risk for seizures. The higher the temp, the higher the risk. That is when the decision was made to be transported and admitted to Children's Hospital in Detroit.
I texted Mark to let him know. Since he was working he wanted to be the one to do the transport. The hospital staff and his dispatch were so great working this out for us. I know it wasn't easy for him, I am sure he never thought he'd see the day he would be transporting his own child, but I know he wouldn't have wanted it any other way. On our way to Children's by way of the best husband and daddy, we were in good hands.
Word started getting out about our situation as Mark was trying to keep everyone updated by phone and facebook (since my phone is junk and died). Prayer requests were sent out...not just by our family but friends reaching out to their family and friends asking for prayers.
By Monday evening we were in 3 prayer circles in 3 different churches and friends were putting the call out on their facebook for prayers. WOW. Today as I was perusing facebook I was so overwhelmed by the amazing response...prayers, thoughts and love from people we have never met before.
We were discharged yesterday and Camden has been fever-free since Tuesday afternoon. Still no answers as to what caused this to happen, but tests are still being done. We are praying for an answer.
There are no words for the gratitude we feel for everyone's prayers. It is so overwhelming to know we are surrounded by such amazing people, whether we've met you or not. Thank you doesn't begin to cover it....but thank you, with all our hearts. We truly believe your prayers and God are what put him on the mend. We are beyond grateful and blessed.
All our love,
Mark, Amanda, Camden and Parker
